Many brass instrument players pay attention in terms of design and specification of mouthpiece, such as inner diameter and throat size. How about weight? I know there are mouthpieces featuring "Light Weight" and "Heavy Weight"; however, I have rarely seen weights in digital figures. I have to admit weight variance or tolerance through production.

I found an analogue scale at my place and measured my tuba mouthpieces. Please take a look the following table. (The analogue scale is not as accurate as digital scale.)

Schilke 62 is a relatively small mouthpiece but not lightest. JK5E is smaller than 4D but not lighter. Alloy, plating (silver or gold), routing and other factor could influence weight. (Hey, titanium is the way beyond light.)

I had what's called heavy weight mouthpiece (Parke Ofenloch). It should weight more.

I added BrassLab 67C and Tubaman-F Proto Type. Oh, 67C is heavy and reminds me Parke Ofenloch. On the other hand, Tubaman-F is fairly light.

金管楽器奏者はマウスピースのデザイン、特にカタログに記載されている内径やスロート径を気にしますが、重量についてはどうでしょうか。「通常モデルより軽く仕上げました。」や「ヘビーウェイトモデル」という広告に○%軽量化や重くしたというのは見たことがありますが、実際の重さはほとんど見たことがないと思います。

たまたま家庭用の秤、とは言ってもデジタルではなくアナログを見つけたので、手持ちのマウスピースの重さを量ってみました。それでは、下表をご覧ください。

シルキー62は比較的ちいさなマウスピースですが、それほど軽くはないことがわかります。

そしてJK4Dと5Eは数値上では5Eが軽いはずですが、そんなことはないです。5Eが一番重いことも判明しました。Volareも数値上CBT-01の方が重いと思いきや、持った瞬間に軽いとわかります。

BrassLabの67CとTubaman-F Proto Typeを追加しました。67Cは内径32mmと小さめのマウスピースですが、315gとぶっちぎりで重いです。そしてTubam-F Proto Typeは、なんとチタンに迫る165gです。

材料の真鍮（合金）の種類、メッキの仕上げ、切削工程など、様々な要素が重さに影響を与えるようです。（チタンはぶっちぎりで軽いですね。）
